The Distromat featured in an exhibition about local zine and print ephemera at The Mayfly Cafe, 72 High Street Lowestoft. The exhibition ran throughout June 2026. In addition to the Distromat the exhibition had a display of locally originated zines from the 1970’s onwards including: The Waveney Clarion, Ripple, Wake Up, Undercurrents, Bicycle Bulletin, The Blues Club Echo, The Lantern, Coypu Comix, Lowdown and graphic work by Mickey Gibbons and Andrew Lines.
The curated distromat selection for this exhibition featured the following zines:
COLUMN ONE
- Animals – A collection of eight monochrome watercolours by Tessa Newcomb.
- Inbetween Days – Paul Tucker’s Photographic study of Lowestoft (including an interview)
- Soundscapes – by Mark C Sargeant
- The Wish Fish – A retelling of a traditional tale in words and sketches by Lisa Davies
COLUMN TWO
- Wake Up – Homage to the ‘Wake Up’ zine that was produced in Lowestoft by Dave T in the 1980’s and 90’s.
- The Panoram – A celebration of a 1940’s American coin operated “music video” juke box. Includes a “magic media dot” link to a video of one of the original 3 minute films.
- Polyester Planet – Swap Shop Suffolk championing the cause of accessible environmentally friendly fashion.
- The Seven Wonders of Lowestoft – A reimagining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World set in contemporary Lowestoft by Liz Griffiths.
